LiposuctionProcedure: Contouring of body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a tube and vacuum device. Common locations for liposuction include chin, neck, upper arms, abdomen, hips, thighs, calves. Length: 1 to 2 hours or more. Anesthesia/Hospitalization: General anesthesia. Usually outpatient, but may be performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures that may or may not require hospitalization. Side Effects: Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, burning sensation. |

Risks: Asymmetry, skin injury, rippling or bagginess of the skin, or pigmentation changes may occur. Some patients experience fluid retention. Excessive fluid loss can lead to shock. Recovery: You may return to 1 to 2 weeks, but more strenuous activity should be avoided for 2 to 4 weeks. Full recovery from swelling and bruising will occur over 1 to 6 months or more. Duration of Results: Permanent, with sensible diet and exercise.
