Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Procedure: Removal of excess skin and repositioning tissue and nipples to lift and reshape the sagging breast.
Length: 1 to 3 hours. May be done in conjuction with a breast augmentation.
Anesthesia/Hospitalization:General anesthesia. Usually outpatient, but may require an overnight stay.
Side Effects: Temporary discomfort, swelling, bruising, change in skin or nipple sensation.
Risks:The procedure may result in permanent loss of feeling tin the breast or nipples. Skin loss and infection may occur, and some patients develop thick, wide scars or unevenly positioned nipples.
Recovery: You may return to work in a week or more. Strenuous activity may be resumed within a month. Scars will fade over the course of several months to a year or more.
Duration of Results: Results are variable. Time, gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight changes may cause new sagging. The insertion of breast implants at the time of surgery may enhance and prolong results.
